Sensei Robert Young has been practicing martial arts for over 38 years, and has produced many present and past world champions. He has taught many state, national and international champions but his focus has always been to preserve the traditional teachings of Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate Do. His advice is sought by many yet he still considers himself a student. He believes that all practitioners of karate should always remember that no matter what the style, it should be considered a journey and not a destination. For his personal growth he finds it incomparable to go to Okinawa, the birth place of all karate. It is there where all the most senior masters serve as an inspiration to all by their dedication to daily training, regardless of age. It is only through this never ending dedication to training that one will find the true essence of karate-do.
Sabumnim Leo started Taekwon-Do when he was just only 10 years old. As a child he trained with Master Florindo at la Escuela Argentina de Taekwondo, which was part of the ITF (International Taekwondo Federation). He continued to train at la Escuela Argentina de Taekwondo for the next 9 years achieving his 1st degree black belt. Following his 1st degree he began assisting Master Florindo at the dojo and eventually started training there full time. Sabumnim Leo is now a 2nd degree black belt with over 19 years training in Taekwon-do and a high level of competition experience. Having come up through the same lines as Master Florindo they share common principles of what is, and what is not Taekwon-do.
Sensei Marcel has been practicing Aikido for over 12 years. Using Aikido he has effectively utilized primary techniques, such as throws, pins, projections and immobilizations holds. The art focuses on center, balance and state of mind. This is the art you've heard of that "uses your opponent's own power against him." However, "opponent" and "against him" are not really concepts which are Aikido friendly. We rather look at it as blending with one's partner to create a harmonic outcome in a potentially dissonant situation. When approached this way, Aikido becomes more a means of enlightenment and understanding the instincts and characteristics of human nature, behavior and communication. Though the self-defense aspects of Aikido are very powerful, they pale in comparison to spiritual enlightenment.
Instructor Melanie was a member of the Canadian Olympic diving team. She is a certified Gyrokinesis and Gyrotonics instructor. Gyrokinesis excersises are designed to work the entire body through spinal movement and joint articulation. Based on the body's natural ability to move forward and backward and side to side, the movements are designed to be rhythmic and fluid. Rather than specific postures or stances being held for long periods of time, Gyrokinesis excerxises are smoothly intergrated, seeming more like dance than traditional yoga. Natural breathing patterns are also incorporated into Gyrokinesis excerises.
